New to climbing and loving it so much that you want to become a competent, independent and safe indoor climber?
Or has it been a while since you’ve been climbing and your belaying skills are now a vague distant memory?
Then this course is for you!
Course Content
We cover all the basic indoor skills, such as;
- hazards to be aware of in the climbing wall
- what kit to use, and how to check it is appropriate and safe
- Harnesses; different types, the features, and how to check they’re safe and ready to climb
- tying in with the rethreaded figure 8 knot and stopper
- top rope belaying using a variety of devices; assisted braking devices and tubulars
- ensuring both climber and belayer knows what they’re checking for during buddy checks
- communication between climber and belayer, including safety calls, and climbing language like types of holds and techniques
- taking falls and fall practice
- managing weight differences
- safe auto-belay use (if the wall has them)
- Indoor grading system and choosing routes appropriate to your level
- encouraging safe and efficient techniques and nurturing confidence in the process
- answering any climbing related questions that you may have!
Duration
2 x 1.5 hour sessions over 2 weeks
Location
Haverfordwest Leisure Centre, and Overhang Climbing Centre in Carmarthen are my local walls, but I can travel to other walls upon request and availability.
Cost
Minimum 3 people to be booked on course
£45 per person, plus climbing wall entry fee
